Meet Your Behaviour Support Practitioner
At Karinya, we believe that every behaviour has a purpose and that meaningful change begins with understanding the person behind the behaviour.
Our Positive Behaviour Support approach is person-centred, trauma-aware and strengths-based, focusing on understanding individual needs, improving quality of life and developing practical strategies that promote independence, emotional wellbeing and meaningful participation in everyday life.
We work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers and other professionals to create individualised strategies that are practical, respectful and sustainable.
Understanding Behaviour. Building Skills. Improving Lives.

Amanda is a qualified Counsellor and approved Behaviour Support Practitioner with extensive experience working alongside NDIS participants, children, young people and families with diverse and complex support needs.
Throughout her career, Amanda has worked collaboratively with NDIS participants and their support networks, DFFH Child Protection, schools, community organisations, sporting clubs, allied health professionals and other service providers to support individuals experiencing emotional, behavioural, social and developmental challenges.
With a background in Counselling, Community Services and Youth Work, alongside specialised training in trauma, attachment and psychosocial interventions, Amanda brings a practical, compassionate and trauma-aware approach to Positive Behaviour Support.
Amanda believes that behaviour is a form of communication and that meaningful, lasting change begins with understanding the individual, their experiences, environment and unmet needs.
Her approach focuses on building positive relationships, strengthening individual capabilities and developing practical, evidence-informed strategies that promote emotional regulation, independence, inclusion and improved quality of life.
Working in Partnership with HELPZ
Amanda currently provides Positive Behaviour Support services through HELPZ, a registered NDIS provider. This partnership allows her to deliver individualised Behaviour Support services while maintaining a collaborative approach with participants, families, carers and their wider support networks.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-informed approach that aims to understand why behaviours of concern occur and identify positive ways to meet a person's needs.
Rather than focusing solely on changing behaviour, we explore the factors that may be contributing to it, including communication difficulties, sensory needs, emotional regulation, environmental influences and unmet support needs.
Our goal is to help individuals feel understood, supported and empowered to develop skills that improve their everyday lives.

Our Approach
At Karinya Connect, we recognise that no two individuals are the same.
We take the time to understand each participant's experiences, strengths, communication style, environment and goals.
Our approach is built on relationships, trust and collaboration, with a focus on developing realistic strategies that can be implemented across home, school and community environments.
Where appropriate, our farm-based environment may also provide opportunities for natural engagement, observation and relationship-building as part of the assessment and support process.
